My responsibilities include developing agro-based downstream industry & tourism, youth agropreneurs and the National Botanical Garden in Shah Alam. Also, to coordinate hosting of the upcoming MAHA Expo 2024.

About Me

Mr Muhammad Ammir Haron is Undersecretary of Agro-based Food Industry Division at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), Malaysia. Formerly a Senior Research Fellow at the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN).

With more than 19 years of experience in government, he began his career as a trainee auditor at KPMG Malaysia before being appointed as an Administrative and Diplomatic Officer (PTD) at the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development in 2004. After four years, he joined the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office in 2008 as an Economics Special Officer. Subsequently, he served in the Prime Minister’s Office from 2009 to 2018 in various capacities until his last position as the Director of Policy and Research. He then joined the Ministry of Federal Territories, where he assumed responsibility as Under Secretary of the Development Division, overseeing most notably the multi-billion Ringgit River of Life project. He then joined INTAN in November 2019.

Mr Ammir has extensive board experience: PR1MA – a national affordable housing development agency; FINAS – the National Film Development Corporation; MARA Corp – an investment holding company of a trust agency for entrepreneur and educational development; as well as Bank Rakyat Foundation – the education and welfare arm of the biggest cooperative bank in Malaysia.

He was active in the cooperative sector as Founding Chairman of Putrajaya Professionals Cooperative (KOPROJAYA), with more than 2,000 members comprising professional youths in government. He was also involved in the youth scene as a two-term Treasurer General of Gerakan Belia 4B (GB4B) under the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia.

Mr Muhammad Ammir Haron holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from the National University of Malaysia (UKM), a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Financial Management from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Management from the Institute of Public Administration (INTAN).
